Question

When Abigail was a baby she would get very bad diaper rashes because of her medical history(I don't have time to post the whole story, but she had 60% of her colon removed and had horrible rashes because her stools had more acid in them than usual) so we used cloth diapers sometimes. I didn't know anything about the huge selection of diapers, we just did it out of necessity. So I used folded receiving blankets that I found at a thrift store.
Anyway, I am thinking about using them with this new baby. However there are so many choices I don't know where to start. So I was wandering if anyone has some advice on the subject. Do you or have you used cloth diapers, and which ones do you recommend and why?

(Also, Abigail's birthday is next month and I promise to post all about her rough beginning.)

We use cloth diapers. We just use a basic gerber brand diaper with padding and also plastic underpants to cover them. They work great! I know there are expensive, fancy ones out there but the ones we use work well, I see no need to check out others.

Hope all is well! Can't wait to *meet* baby four!!

Is this the same "system" you used when your children were infants? Also, do you use pins or snappies(I think that's what they're called)?

Things are getting better, my doctor gave me some medicine for the extreme nausea. Although I can't take it more than twice a day because it makes me so tired.

Blessings,
Amanda

hi! I'm a friend of Danielle E. (Yet He Abideth Faithful) and I surfed in that way.

I'm not sure I can help you much with your cloth diaper question, but I had to ask: did Abigail have Hirschsrpungs? My niece had it as well and had 70% of her colon removed. They go through the desitin like mad! lol. How old is Abigail now and how is she doing? My niece, Claire, turned 1 in January and seems to be doing fine, other than the terrible runny poo, they have to change her immediately or she breaks out into a bad rash.

When I used cloth diapers I used regular diapers and pins, and the gerber diaper liners (quite a lot like dryer sheets). That way I could throw away the poo or wash the liners with the diapers if they were just wet. I kept a pail of water with biz in it and washed every night. I just gave away a whole box of diapers, covers, and liners because I was done with them! Otherwise I'd have mailed them to you.

Congrats on baby 4, I have 4 and I'm SO very blessed!

Ok, this is getting to be a book... take care! God Bless, Laura

Laura-

Thanks for stopping by!

Abigail had necrotizing enterocolitis. Basically her colon was dying and they had to remove the diseased part because it was eating away her colon. She just turned 8 and is doing great! We weren't even expected to see her 3rd birthday. She still has some complications that she may never get over. She has to eat every 2 hours, and she can't have low fat anything(poor kid!), she's smaller for her age-she hasn't reached 40 lbs yet(but don't let her size fool you!), and a few other small things.

Thanks for the cloth diaper info! We can't wait for this little blessing. Of course the "well are you done yet?" comments have been coming more frequently(and by complete strangers too) We don't mind though and I love the look on people's faces when we reply with "I hope not!".

Blessings,
Amanda
